Why choose one when you can have both? Manaslu’s raw wilderness (recently famous) meets Annapurna’s timeless beauty (one of the oldest trekking routes). Additionally, this trek blends the three major alpine high passes: Larkya La Pass (5,160 m), Kang La Pass (5,420m), and Thorong La Pass (5,416 m).
The Manaslu Annapurna Three Passes Trek begins in the untouched Manaslu Valley, famed for its dramatic landscapes and traditional villages. Along the way, you’ll witness breathtaking nature, diverse cultures, and trails that gradually connect into the Annapurna region.
This special package by Hidden Trek Nepal blends wilderness adventure with cultural depth. You’ll explore a renowned route while also venturing off the beaten path, discovering authentic Buddhist traditions in remote areas.
Individually, each of these treks takes around 12–15 days. But in the 29-day Manaslu Annapurna Three High Passes Trek, you’ll complete all three, with a thoughtfully designed itinerary that ensures proper acclimatization and no sense of rush.
The Manaslu Annapurna Three Passes Trek combines diverse trails into one epic journey, keeping every day exciting with new cultures, scenery, and challenges few treks can rival.
Along the way, the routes weave together a rich tapestry of natural wonders, with breathtaking views of over thirty Himalayan giants, including Mt. Manaslu (8,163m) and Mt. Annapurna (8,091m), the world’s eighth and tenth highest peaks.
This trek offers not only grand adventure but also deep cultural immersion, with memorable interactions with local communities across the Himalayas.
Like other demanding Himalayan journeys, the Manaslu Annapurna Three Passes Trek tests both physical and mental endurance. The trail winds through narrow paths, dense forests, and rugged landscapes, requiring 5-7 hours of walking daily, and on some pass-crossing days, up to 8–10 hours.
Spending 29 days in remote regions without modern comforts can also be mentally challenging. To fully enjoy this adventure, trekkers need above-average fitness, strong stamina, and the ability to adapt to a simple mountain lifestyle.
The greatest challenges lie not only in the steep climbs and rocky terrain but also in the unpredictable weather. Winter brings extreme cold and snow, while the monsoon causes heavy rainfall and slippery trails. For this reason, trekkers usually avoid these seasons and plan their journeys during the more stable months.
The Manaslu Annapurna Three Passes Trek includes three permits.
Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP) and Manaslu Conservation Area Project (MCAP), and Tims can be applied for by the trekkers on their own and collected from offices in Kathmandu. On the other hand, the Restricted Area Permit (RAP) for Manaslu must be issued by a licensed trekking agency in Nepal due as it has been declared as a restricted area.

We will head on a 9 hour bus journey from Kathmandu to Macchakhola, passing through Sotikhola and other scenic spots along the way. Machhakhola is the official beginning of your journey into the Manaslu Region.
Machhakhola is our first stop of the day. Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner included.
Early morning after breakfast, we head toward Jagat. The first day of the trek introduces you to Nepal trekking trails, following multiple river crossings.
Jagat welcomes you through the stone paved alleys and the smooth atmosphere. The community belongs to Tibetan Buddhists, where you will see their way of living. Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner included.
The trek from Jagat to Deng takes 6-7 hours, where you will pass through subtropical forests and the dramatic Budi Gandaki river.
Dengn is the small village community where we will spend the night. Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner included.
The majority of the initial trekking trail passes through the rhododendron forests, and rivers. You will also visit a few monasteries/stupas rooted with Tibetan culture. The villagers normally will be in traditional bakkhu with a pleasant smile on their face. Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner included.
This day, the uphill trek to Shyala will expose you more toward the Himalayas. The icy north face of Manaslu suddenly dominates the trail and you will have completely different views to enjoy while trekking.
Shyala is a beautiful village known for preserving the thankas paintings for centuries in the remote sanctuary. Overnight at this beautiful village. Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner included.
It will only take a short hike from Shyala to Samagaon. We enjoy the trail and walk toward our first acclimatization destination. Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner included.
Samagaun is a gem of the Manaslu region. Located in Nepal’s Gorkha District, this remote community serves as an acclimatization point for the Manaslu Circuit trek.
But as moving your body is important even during acclimatization days, we take our time to explore Manaslu Base Camp today.
The trails include a steady climb during your base camp journey. So we will walk slowly as the altitude may cause difficulty in breathing. Overnight in Samagaun. Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner included.
The distance from Samagaun to Samdo is not very long, plus the Birendra Lake adds a mesmerizing experience to the trip.
After an approx 45 minutes walk from Samagaun, we will spend a few minutes at the freshwater lake called Birendra Lake (Birendra Tal).
Then we will gradually walk uphill toward the Budi Gandaki River upstream, enjoying the Manaslu glacier. You will see the stone walls around the paths to Samdo. Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner included.
We are focusing on real slow uphill trek along with frequent acclimatization, prioritizing health and preparing our body for a massive Larkya La Pass.
Following the rule to keep moving on the acclimation day, we will first follow a steep climb all the way to Samdo peak. As you take the uphill route, you will be blessed with the best mountain ranges and a Samdo glacier.
Samdo also lies just beyond the Tibetan border, so we will explore it today. You will see glimpses of the ancient trade route to Tibet. Overnight in Samdo. Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner included.
Dharmasala is our final stop before you reach Larkya La Pass. The trail takes you up toward barren valleys, noticeable thin air and the temperature drop.
The day will be spent on Dharmasala itself, staying hydrated and preparing our body for one of the big days, crossing the first high pass from our three high passes trip. Overnight in Dharmasala. Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner included.
The most challenging and second-highest point of this trek starts early in the morning before sunrise. Waking up early in the morning (3 a.m.) and starting the trek early can make the trek difficult, but the steady walk makes the pass easy to cross in the easy manner. Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner included.
Today, we trek through the Manaslu Conservation Area and Annapurna Circuit Trek. Crossing the Dudh Khola and beautiful villages like Gho, we reach Dharapani. Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner included.
The trek to Koto leads to alpine terrain today, passing through pine trees, and the views of Annapurna ranges.
You will trek through the Annapurna circuit trail today. Following the trail over the Marsyangdi River, we also enjoy the west face of Manaslu peak today.
Koto is mainly home to the Gurung and Manangi communities, and its lodges offer a cosy spot to rest, recharge, and adjust to the altitude before trekking onward. Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner included.
Covering around a total 14 KM trek, today we enter the restricted area of the Nar Phu valley. The trail is rocky today, with a steep path through the dense forests.
One of the trek’s most memorable moments is passing a broad waterfall along the trail. The route ascends steadily toward Meta, offering increasingly clear views of snow-covered peaks as you climb the steep hills.
As the elevation rises, tree lines begin to thin out. Meta itself is a small village set on an open plain, home to just a few lodges. Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner included.
After enjoying breakfast, we begin the journey along a rugged path toward Kyang. The trail ascends gradually, revealing striking rock shapes carved over time.
As you gain altitude, the fir and juniper forests start to thin. Take a short rest at Chyako, where you can grab a quick bite and something to drink.
You might catch sight of blue sheep grazing in the wild. Eventually, you'll reach the quiet village of Kyang, dotted with a few scattered houses and guest lodges.
Since you’ll arrive by midday, we will take the opportunity to wander around and get a feel for the village life in Kyang. Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner included.
Today's short trek journey takes us toward the peaceful remote Phu village. You will enjoy the Himlung peak more as you come close to its base camp.
Phu Village, nestled in Nepal’s Manang District within the Nar Phu Valley, stands out for its rich cultural heritage. Known for its deep Tibetan influence, this remote village features ancient monasteries and breathtaking natural landscapes. Overnight at this beautiful village. Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner included.
Today’s acclimatisation walk to Himlung Base Camp is one of the trip’s best moments. The trail heads up along the Phu Khola, passing mani walls and chortens carved with Tibetan prayers.
As you climb higher, the valley gets narrower and glaciers appear along the sides of Himlung Himal. This peak was only opened to climbers in 1992. The base camp sits at 4,920 metres on a rocky moraine scattered with old gear from past expeditions.
After the hike, return to Phu village for a warm meal of tsampa and butter tea. Locals might even share stories of yeti sightings in the nearby mountains. Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner included.
Enjoying the dry, dramatic scenery, we will retrace our steps to Kyang. Keep an eye out for blue sheep on the rocky cliffs as you walk. Say goodbye to the kind locals before heading down the familiar trail. Once you arrive in Kyang, take time to rest and explore the area before sunset. Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner included.
After breakfast, we will follow a winding uphill trail, passing whitewashed houses and bamboo-topped chortens along the way. The path is peaceful, with stunning views and a calm mountain atmosphere.
Nar is noticeably bigger than Phu and feels more lively. Over the years, it has grown used to seeing a few trekkers, so the vibe is friendly and welcoming. You’ll likely spot local women weaving wool into rugs and blankets, keeping traditions alive. Once you reach your tea house, take a moment to relax and enjoy the beautiful Himalayan views right outside your window. Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner included.
Today, we will cross the second high pass of our three high passes trip. The day will be challenging today as it will be the long trek where you will witness the strong winds.
We will wake up early today and take an uphill climb on the steep trails. Reaching the summit at 5,420 metres, you're rewarded with a breathtaking panorama of the Annapurna range, jagged peaks of Annapurna II, III, and IV stretch across the horizon.
The descent toward Ngwal village is steep, yet we carefully enjoy this thrilling trail and pass through the quiet hamlet of Julu before reaching Ngawal.
Ngawal is a charming medieval village known for its slate-roofed houses. Here, you’ll find a 400-year-old monastery that holds a statue of Guru Rinpoche, believed to have flown here from Tibet. After your big climb, we celebrate your achievement, overnight at Ngawal. Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner included.
Today’s trek takes us from Ngawal to the beautiful village of Manang. The trail follows the clear waters of the Marsyangdi River, winding through peaceful pine forests until you reach the charming village of Braga.
Braga is home to the ancient Sher Gompa and Braga Monastery, believed to be over 900 years old. As this is a short and gentle hike, you'll have plenty of time to relax in Manang.
Later, we can visit the nearby Gangapurna Glacier and its emerald lake, which rests quietly across from the village. We pass under tall wooden gates, and enjoy conversations with friendly locals.Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner included.
The trail to Tilicho Base Camp is both dramatic and challenging. It winds through a narrow path carved into a notorious landslide zone, where even a small rockfall could trigger a dangerous slide.
After navigating the rocky terrain with several sharp ascents and descents, we will finally arrive at Tilicho Base Camp. A handful of teahouses offer shelter here, though they tend to fill up quickly during peak trekking seasons. Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner included.
We will reach the world's highest altitude lake today, Tilicho Lake. Beginning the trek early in the morning, it will be a careful walk on the sloppy trail. The landscape is tricky, with narrow trails passing by a rocky terrain.
After around 3 hours climbing to Tilicho lake, we will reach the destination. Tilicho Lake is a sacred site for both Hindus and Buddhists. Hindus believe its waters cleanse sins and bring peace. Gurung and Manangba pilgrims visit regularly for prayer and rituals.
We will slowly downhill toward Shree Kharka. Overnight in Shree Kharka. Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner included.
Yak Kharka translates "yak pastures", as the name we will cross through many yaks on this day. After a few more walks, we reach the top of Upper Khangsar, where the sweeping views of Manang in one direction, and the other up toward Tilicho Peak can be seen. Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner included.
From Yak Kharka, we trek toward Thorang Phedi (also known as low camp), or Thorang High Camp. High camp is located higher up than lower camp, making it closer to the pass.
We will decide where to stay depending on the fitness level, or preferences. Trekking till high camp will slightly ease us to cross the pass next day, but it is highly important to listen to our body. Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner included.
Thorang la pass will be our last pass from our three high passes trek. We will start our main day early in the morning, toughest yet the most incredible trek.
After a short breakfast, we climb 2 - 3 hours toward the pass. Thin air, freezing temperatures can make an ascent quite tricky. But the summit rewards you with the panoramic views of Dhaulagiri, Nilgiri, and the Mukut Himal.
After reliving the moment, we will walk downhill toward Muktinath. Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner included.
The next day’s trek from Muktinath to Marpha takes about 6-7 hours. Marpha is a thakali town known for its scenic charm and apple brandy. Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner included.
We will take a bus ride from Marpha to Tatopani. We can do hot spring baths on Tatopani and ease our body from our lengthy trekking. Today, we finally say goodbye to this long and beautiful Manaslu Annapurna Three Passes journey.Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner included.
We will take a local bus to Pokhara. We can also hire a jeep but that will cost you extra bucks. The bus ride typically takes 5-6 hours, but it can differ due to road conditions. Typically during monsoon season, it might take a long time to reach Pokhara. Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner included.
The ideal time to undertake Manaslu Annapurna Three Passes Trek is in Spring (March - May). The weather remains excellent with magnificent views of himalayan ranges. The clear skies welcome most trekkers during this season.
