Useful Info

Best time to travel to Nepal and Bhutan

Nepal and Bhutan both have similar climates, so they make for a great combo trip to see some of Asia's most beautiful Himalayan scenery. Nepal and Bhutan make an excellent tour in South Asia. Together, they show you what it's like to live in the shadow of the world's tallest mountain range, where you can visit the birthplace of Buddha and the last Shangri-La in the Himalayas.

Lastly, when is the ideal moment to start on this adventure? Get ready to be motivated to see the best of Nepal and Bhutan.

  • Spring (March to May): Best time of blooming flowers, mild weather, and ideal for trekking.
  • Autumn (September to November): Sunny day with clear skies, some festivals, and good temperatures.
  • Winter (December to February): Snow-capped peaks, fewer tourists, and beautiful scenery.
  • Summer (June to August): Explore lush greenery but expect some monsoon rains.

A few hotel discounts may also be available during the off-season winter time of December to February and the monsoon season of June to August. But in general, there is not a huge seasonal variation in costs for tours.

Altitude sickness during Bhutan and Nepal Tour

The altitude gain in Bhutan tours may cause travelers who visit from sea level to feel slightly uneasy. The likelihood of altitude sickness is still there as all cities are situated at an elevation of more than 2,200 meters above sea level. But if you rest and eat something warm, you will quickly get used to it.

Even during the Everest Heli Tour, you spend minimal time at the high points. Most of the time, flying at lower altitudes and staying up high for a very few minutes at places like Kala Patthar lowers the risk of getting altitude sickness.

The time spent at elevations reaching 5,000 meters is very short; however, the body's capacity to adjust to this environment varies. That is why it is essential to be deeply aware of one's body signals. The rapid rise to high elevations may present a risk of altitude sickness.

Symptoms can be:

  • Headache / Dizziness
  • Weakness and fatigue
  • Shortness of breath
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Appetite Loss
  • Rapid heartbeat
  • Difficulty sleeping

To prevent altitude sickness, stick to the following recommendations:

  • Stay hydrated by drinking more water daily.
  • Consume nutritious food and avoid pushing yourself unnecessarily.
  • Avoid smoking and consuming alcoholic beverages for the initial few days to prevent dehydration.
  • Keep drinking lemon-honey tea and warm soups.
  • Let your guide know if you feel uneasy. First aid will be provided by him/her.
  • Know the symptoms of altitude sickness, including nausea, dizziness, headache, vomiting, insomnia, and breathing problems.
