Tsum Valley and Manaslu Trek Flood Update: When will it open?

Manaslu Region is facing back-to-back obstacles due to the sudden natural disaster taking place in Nepal. Just recovered from the Namrung bridge incident, a flood on the Budhi Gandaki river took place on Sunday, 11 October 2026. The flood swept away at least six bridges, 35 to 40 houses and affected the lower trail of the Manaslu Circuit and Tsum Valley trek (Machhakhola and Jagat). For now, it is impossible to trek the Manaslu Circuit route.

The Nepali Army later announced a dry landslide blocked the river upstream, and when the trapped water suddenly broke through, it caused a powerful surge of mud and debris.

The army’s brigade headquarters received preliminary information about the blockage at 5:55 am, and a reconnaissance team dispatched from Bangsing security post at 6:15 am confirmed a dry landslide at Filim in Chumnubri-3.

So many trekkers were already on trail and got stranded. Helicopters and ground teams were deployed for search and rescue operations.

Are October and November 2026 Tsum Valley and Manaslu Circuit Treks Cancelled?

From this blog we also request that those who are planning to trek Manalsu Circuit or Tsum Valley trek this October and early November, kindly postpone your trekking date or choose another destination. The lower trail has been heavily affected and there is no reopening notice yet.

The flood came from Chumnubri-6 and hit the Budhi Gandaki, with warnings down to Trishuli Dobhan. It also washed away the Arughat bridge. Arughat is the usual road access point for Manaslu and Tsum Valley, so access to these treks is heavily disrupted.

When will the Manaslu Circuit reopen?

With honesty, it may take a bit of time for the Manaslu Circuit trek to reopen. The flood has swept away not only a bridge, but a whole village. On top of that the event took place on Ghatasthapana, the first day of the biggest Hindu festival in Nepal, Dashain. The construction can take a bit long so it is better to not wait for the Manaslu trail to reopen at least till mid November.

If I have a trek booked, what should I do?

If you have already booked the trek with an agency, you can easily postpone the trek for the next season / right after the trail re-opens. If you still want to visit Nepal on the date you booked your trip, choosing other safe trekking trails of Nepal is the best idea.
